Earlier this Autumn, our very own Sharon Naylor and her three sisters went off on an epic journey to Borneo to take on the might of Mount Kinabalu! Before their phenomenal feat, the four ladies got to experience everything that the country had to offer.Whilst venturing into the National Parks, they came face to face with some Orangutangs, a rare treat for the eyes, when they dare to venture to the feeding stations in public view. Watching the animals in their natural habitat was a tremendous spectacle, and truly inspiring. As well as this, the ladies got to sample the best of Malaysian and Indonesian cuisine with Seafood a plenty in the town markets!
The trip was also enhanced by the electric atmosphere and friendly people of Borneo, especially the guide that helped them along the way. Having been raised in the jungle, he regailed the sisters with his childhood stories, and even gave them some fantastic jungle household tips (bowl made of leaves anyone?).But the best was yet to come, when Sharon, along with her sisters Stephanie, Alison and Lindsey, took on the climb up Kinabalu! Despite starting off in an extremely humid tropical heat, the cold brisk air at the Summit was welcomed, as elation hit the group after their phenomenal achievement! Certainly a trip to remember!
But Sharon is not the only Intrepid Eventus Adventurer, Phil went to take on his own Mountains in late October with the Mountain Marathon up in Scotland. Despite the early offset of missing a flight, Phil and his companion made it to the start line of their epic journey! The marathon is a 2-day Mountain event, held in a different region across the UK every year. It was first held in 1968 and continues to test orienteering skills in extreme circumstances even today! And as if that wasn't enough, each team must carry all their gear, including equipment for an overnight camp throughout the rugged course!
Last but not least, not content with just a climb up Mount Kinabalu, Sharon also has been keeping up-to-date with her outdoor activities qualifications, renewing her Hill Walking Group Leader Award over the weekend of the 18th-20th November.

The gruelling(!) 3 day course was as intensive as ever and just as we knew she would, she passed with flying colours! Congratulations to Sharon and well done on all the hard work and preparation that went in before the assessment itself!
So, what a couple of months it has been, both in and outside Eventus!
